YourMondayMotivator: What are you doing for young people?

Recently I had a discussion about the youth of today and what people are doing to help them.

With a population who is living longer, more productive lives, we have an issue; Nature is having a hard time making way for the innovation of the young.

In a world where people are spending more and more time in front of screens how are we going to drag kids away to teach them to build houses, fix power lines, dig drains and make them see the value in these occupations?

In my opinion building something with your hands is a very important skill and can give you a great feeling of satisfaction. Jobs that involve your mind, hands, blisters and dirt need to be elevated to a position of craftsmanship again.

So what can you do for the youth of today? I’m going to train a junior up over the next year and I know someone who is giving their time to train youth in business and others who run groups. I’m just hoping I have planted a seed and it will grow into something when the time is right.

Have a great week and keep and eye out for a promising youth you can help and ignore the baggy jeans like in todays image.

My best.

YourMondayMotivator: Why I hate the weekend …

This morning I woke up realising why I hate weekends and it wasn’t the why I had been thinking it was for years – I like working.

That is true. However, this morning I realised it was because weekends areunstructured.

Week days I know exactly what I am doing, where I am going, and what I am eating. In the weekends it’s generally a bit of a lottery. I don’t know what I’m doing, where I’m going or what I’m eating.

In fact the eating part is the part that gave me this realisation. I’m very disciplined around food and the weekend is a complete nightmare for me sometimes because dinner organisation goes out the window on Friday night.

Thinking about this is easy. Putting it into practice is going to be a bit of a logistical nightmare for my wife. There will have to be compromises.

But maybe just knowing this now will make the weekend easier. Or do I need to get a hobby?

Be great to get your feedback on this . Have a great week and enjoy the structure of it.

My best.

Glenn

YourMondayMotivator –

A lot of us make goals and some of us even plan to, or have a plan to, achieve those goals. However I’m not sure they are always the right goals.

The other night I wrote in my journal I needed to make some ‘soul’ goals. Not just learning and earning ones. I had a fair idea what I meant at the time but after pondering it I realised I was a little bit off the mark. I want to set goals that enable me to have awesome experiences.

Recently I watched a video about Core Influence by Frank Kern. Frank is an Internet Marketer, one of the best, and he talked about the difference between surface goals and core goals.

Surface goals are the things that pop into your head when someone asks you what you want in life. I want to be rich, sit on a beach, watch endless sunsets etc. That kind of stuff. He then explains that is just the surface stuff and it won’t make you happy when you get them.

What you really want is the experience that stuff gives you. … Think about that for a minute. …

In my opinion it’s true.

Why do I want a Lamborghini Gallardo? To look cool? Nope, most people will think I look like a tosser and my wife will think it’s a fat waste of money. I want the experience of driving a Lamborghini. Now having driven a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 I know the experience matches the want and I want one even more. Maybe not the best example but I am willing to do the hard work needed to get one.

This week think about your goals and ask yourself if they are what you really desire. Take a leaf out of Franks book and write down what your perfect ‘average” day looks like if there were no limitations or consequences. The ‘average’ part is really important because you will be living this day every day.

Have fun with this and have a great week.

My best.

Glenn

P.S. Watch the video here. It’s a few hours long so you might have to skip Shorty or Coro to watch it.

YourMondayMotivator: Will it make it faster?

There is a story that the McLaren F1 team ask themselves whether anything they are going to do will make the car go faster. It’s a simple question, right?

Will this make it faster?

In my business we ask ourselves that question a lot. The goal is to give our clients the fastest, easiest and most effective service we can. We have another question too, will this make it easier? Easier to work with us, easier to build, easier to get the result we want.

I believe you can ask yourself this question in a lot of situations and doing so will have a profound effect on how you think about what you are doing. In fact it will help you focus and concentrate on what you are doing.

A great example of what asking ‘will this make it faster’ can lead to is a truism my next door neighbour told me. He is a builder, a very good one, and he told me really good builders take less steps.

Simple. Less steps means less energy wasted and more done in a day.

This week take note of what you are doing, snap out of auto, and ask yourself, ‘will this make it faster?’

You will be impressed by what pops into your head when you do.

My best.

YourMondayMotivator: Argh! So much to do

I have a lot to get done this morning by 8am so I can get on the road and sit in traffic for 40 minutes. The traffic part isn’t cool but it will be worth it because today is the final day of a course I have doing that has been very valuable to me. It’s called Business Domino’s and is run at ATEED. Check it out.

So why the ‘argh’?. We have a builder here this morning so I am writing this in between getting ready to go, moving cars and making sure we are all on the same page.

It’s a little bit overwhelming but has to be done. And that is my little insight for today. Whatever you absolutely have to get done gets done no matter how little time you have or where you have to be.

That is a very important lesson because in my opinion a lot of people get to a point where they feel they have put enough effort in to their life, day, relationship, work etc and then cruise. They let unimportant stuff fill their days and then wonder why they don’t get what they want.

There are things that if you make them so important they absolutely have to be done you will achieve more than you ever thought possible. It’s a mindset. It will take a of effort to do because we are all basically lazy and want to be sitting at the beach.

I’m not that great at doing this. I am constantly working on making things so important I have to do them. But I’m into the 80/20 rule and if I can be awesome at this 80% of the time then life will not pass me by.

This week make things important, do them first, and have a great week.

YourMondayMotivator: Habits that work for you

Habits. People mainly talk about habits as good or bad but don’t seem to know how they created habits that stick or how to unstick the ones that don’t work for them.

There are only two types of habits; those you deliberately form to achieve a goal and those that form randomly because we do not have a purpose.

Once formed, habits operate automatically, without any input from you. An example of a habit is operating automatically would be changing gears when you are driving. Things you don’t have to think about to do them.

This time of year is a great time to think about forming some new habits to help you get what you want. In my opinion the most important habit to get what you want is the success habit. It’s an easy habit to form if you follow this simple process.

Every day think about the things you want and the life you desire. A MindMovie or Dreamboard would help with this. This does not have to be a long process. Just a minute or two focusing on what you want will start to have an effect on you. Consistency is the key here. And defining what success is to you.

Once you are in the habit of doing it every day you will find it easier to form the next habit and the next. Remember humans are the only creatures on the planet given total control over our habits and thoughts. This seems to have been done on Purpose. In my opinion it is a terrible waste if we don’t use it to create habits which work for us. Have a great week and get onto the success habit.

My best.

Glenn
