I would never have thought I would be writing about Rugby two weeks in a row, but I am.

WOW!

This morning I held off writing so I could grab a paper and have a chat with a few people. One person got me thinking. They said it was great that we won but it wasn’t a “good” game.

That got me thinking, what constitutes a “good” game? Maybe a 20 point victory that was easy to get because the French didn’t play well? … In my opinion that would suck. A “good” game is one you win. Full. Stop.

Having to work to the bitter end and play serious tactical rugby to keep that one point lead was a GREAT victory. The All Blacks showed they deserved to win and both teams put their bodies, and future careers, on the line to give us a nail biter of a game. It couldn’t have been scripted better.

There are lots of lessons from this World Cup including how injuries were coped with, Dan Carter, the fallen heroes, the stalwarts who battled through, Brad Thorn, and the emergence of new heroes, Stephen Donald would be one.

For me the biggest lesson would be being passionate works. New Zealand showed a passion for this World Cup I have never seen before. You could see it everywhere. And it showed in the All Blacks team with the tears that flowed freely from very hard men and the humbleness with which they spoke after the game.

That was real passion and I trust we can harness that in other ways to push our country onwards and upwards to be the big, little country it can be.

Congratulations to the All Blacks! And thanks to the French for a great game.
