I’m sorry but … is a really quick way to ruin a sincere apology.

I’m sorry [silence] is where your apology should end and it will be more quickly accepted if it does.

Not sure if this will boost your afternoon but it’s a great habit to form that will make a big difference to your relationships. Practice it daily.
